Before you read this, let me assure you that I am not taking a side or another on the legalization of marijuana and place no judgments on people who smoke it or people who hate it.
I can’t smoke weed. I am an anxious person and smoking pot triggers panic attacks in me.
It has been proven that when a person has an underlying mental health condition that maybe dormant, smoking weed can bring out this mental issue (anxiety, depression & bi-polar disorders, as well as schizophrenia).
Aside from daily stress levels, individual brain chemistry and genetic factors, the other main reason for which marijuana can cause mental health issues is related to the changes that have been made in the plant over the past 15 years or so. The stuff being sold these days is a far cry from the 60’s reefer.
Pot has been modified to contain much more THC and little to no Cannabidiol.
Cannabidiol is what, in laments terms, makes you relax and PREVENTS panic and negative reactions that THC may cause.
It is supposed to be naturally present in Marijuana…but thanks to new hybrid plants…not anymore!
About 10 years ago, I smoked weed on a pretty regular basis. It made me relax. It made me laugh.
It did not burn me out.
Now a days, a tiny toke of the stuff makes me have full fledged panic attacks.
So my question is this: Is it still possible to obtain non-modified seeds in Canada or the USA?
Has all the weed in the world been changed to a point of no return? Will I never be able to smoke a bit of old-fashion, outdoors, non-modified, mellow weed again in my life?

That’s nice. But I’m much closer to the east coast. I guess I could drop by that place you spoke of if I’m ever in Van. Problem is, trying to explain this to pot LOVERS is a little difficult, since you love the stuff and are not likely to ever think bad of it.
Thanks for the info though.
Still, I wonder if there is anything mild and pleasant left for ppl like me.
Kinda like what the Hobbits smoke..ahhah
L.O.T.R. joke…
Thank you nosyB, that is a very good analysis & a pretty straight forward solution. Ah simplicity…
marijuana plants grow to be more potent when there is a higher concentration of oxygen in the air. plants "breathe in" carbon dioxide and "breathe out" oxygen. so when they are grown indoors, there is nowhere for all the oxygen to go, increasing their potency.
the "war on drugs" forced lots of growers indoors, therefore (ironically) increasing the potency of the drug they were "fighting" in the first place.
so if i had to guess, i would say probably you won’t find mellow weed (i remember it too, and i can’t smoke the stuff nowadays either), because in order to be "non-modified" it would have to be a strain that has been historically mostly grown outdoors. your best bet for that would be to make friends with an aging hippie who lives out in the country somewhere and has been growing his own for personal use since the ’60s
for a better explanation, read michael pollan’s "the botany of desire" – it has a whole chapter on the evolution of pot.

There are two types of pot, indica and sativa. Indica has more cannabinoids in it and make you feel stoned. Sativa has more THC and gives you more of a psycadlic high. Now in days ad you said most are hybrids and it’s hard to find straight indica or straight sativa but luckly for people like you and me who want to get stoned most weed on the streets have more indica in them cause indicas are easier to grow and bud quicker.

Come to Vancouver. Do downtown, and go into this apartment building beside "The New Amsterdam Cafe." It’s the BCMP store. (British Columbia Marijuana Party) They sell the best weed. Any type you can think of they have it. Medical, Kush… EVERYTHING!!! There are also a couple of dealers in town that I’m friends with who sell really good really clean weed. Potent as hell but it chills you out. No panic attack or anything. Just pure chillness. So if you’re ever in Vancouver, add me as a contact and let me know when you’re around and I can get you good hook ups. You wouldn’t have to meet me or anything, I’d just give you directions to the BCMP and you’re set.

I smoke A LOT of weed. I know what I’m talking about. hahaha

This panic isn’t probably a result of the growing changes of marijuana. I am in the midst of a “Drugs and Behavior” class and according to the text and studies done, many of the behaviors attributed to marijuana can be better explained by expectation and environment. Reese Jones did experiments that really explain (you can google him) the dynamic. As a sedative/hypnotic type drug, marijuana usually has an anti-anxiety effect. As my text says, “unlike other sedatives…Cannabis sativa seem to be under the volitional control of the user…the vaiability observed amoug subjects and even within the same subject raises doubts that the behaviors traditionally attributed to Cannabis stavia are actually a pure pharmacologically induced outcome of the drug.” (p. 116, How Drugs Influence Behavior, Dr. Jaime Diaz)
Maybe you have an underlying anxiety about using marijuana that you did not used to have. This seems reasonable given the issues with legality and the current focus on enforcement.
